The Best Laid Plans...

Updated: Jan 14, 2020

This will be easy. One week I'll publish the intro graphics and music for the Radius80 podcast and the next week I'll publish the original bass line.

Well, it wasn't easy.

I had this idea of doing a video of playing the bass line and then talking about how it morphed into the intro music (see the last post for details on that). I already purchased a GoPro-like action camera months ago in anticipation of doing videos. But I never used it. How difficult could this be? Strap on the camera, click a button, and BLAM! Done. Well, not done.

The camera clip didn't fit well on my headstock. Good thing I bought an extension pack for it. Put that on and that didn't work well, either. Not to mention it was quite goofy looking.

OK, I stepped back and decided to go another route. No GoPro-like video. Just do a straight video. And that came out horrible. Most people hate how they sound on camera and I'm no exception. It might have been fine. I don't know, but I gave up quick. I fell on my Corporate America training and did the explanation in a bulleted list/slide format. That ended up being confusing and overkill.

So here is the story. I wrote a 4 measure lick sometime in 2019. I liked it enough to notate it and file it away. When working on the podcast, I thought it would work well as the intro. I broke it out, recorded it, and...something was off. Didn't sound that great as an intro by itself. It actually sounded better exported directly from Guitar Pro as a synth bass track and clean bass track (plus drums). I also modified it a bit to be more concise for the intro. Not my original intention, but I liked it. And it went well with the graphics.

Anyway, here's the original bass line...
