The Radius80 Podcast Intro

Updated: Dec 23, 2019

We're planning to do a podcast. We have no experience doing one, so we're learning as we go. Do we start with just audio? Do we do video? Both? Undecided. But to get things going, why not start with the intro?

Personally, I don't want to wait 10 or 20 seconds for some overly produced, decidedly promotional intro to finish every time I fire up a podcast. I want something to the point and done in 5 seconds or less.

The Graphics

Originally, I wanted the full logo to morph into a badge that sat in the left hand corner while some '80s inspired metal music played. I had a lick in mind that I thought would work so I loaded up Guitar Pro and had a listen. Even though it was only 3 measures long, it was too long. But the idea was there. So I headed over to Fivver.

I reviewed a bunch of providers until I found someone that could produce a cool animation that fit the music best (gone was the idea of doing something custom as that was beyond the budget). The end result was a non-custom 11 second video.

I cut out a bunch of frames and modified the music to fit the desired timeline. Brett suggested and wrote the drums and with a tweak to the final few frames suggested by my go-to editor, the video was done.

The Music

My original thought was to record the bass line, add a couple of different amp synths, and then apply some pre-configured mixes. In the end, the exported midi using a clean bass track and a synth bass track sounded better; it had more of that '80s vibe. Perhaps I'll record it later if I ever get a synth bass pedal or synth bass plug-in. For now, the music is a direct export from Guitar Pro (check the music page for a GP7 download of the tracks) and then right into the video editor.

Let us know what you think!
